Component was originally developed by the BBC to
ensure broadcast compatibility during the change from black and
white to colour broadcasting.
Component uses three outputs, most often utilising
RCA plugs but on occasion BNCs, and these outputs are labelled Y
(Luminance), P/A (Blue - Luminance) and P/R (Red - Luminance). Component
outputs have only appeared recently on A/V equipment in the UK and
can be found on the back of DVD players (Output) and also on some
plasma screens and projectors (Input).
If you have component sockets on your equipment,
this is a good connection to use especially over long runs. However,
component is not compatible with RGB.
